CUSTOM TYPEFACE FOR JAMIE HOSKINS

The concept for “Hoskins Playful” was to create a typeface inspired by the fun, creative side of Professor Jamie Hoskins. Drawing inspiration from her hobbies, specifically her passion for sewing, with her professional role as a news producer, I created a typeface that combines both her creative drive and broadcast journalism expertise. I can describe my characters to be playful, confident, and unique. To add a sense of class and sophistication, I wanted to make this a serif font. The curves and edges combined are inspired by her passions and captivate the overall design. Furthermore, I wanted to refresh my typeface’s perspective with contemporary elements similar to what Professor Hoskins brings to Syracuse University as a new professor. Jamie Hoskins’ professional background comes from being a News Producer at many renowned platforms such as abc7NY and Fox 5 DC. All of these characteristics contribute to the curved and straight edges, lowered crossbars, consistent counters, and long legs within my typeface. In my exhibit poster, I used hand-drawn arrows to call out the specific design details which enhanced the playfulness of my typeface. Lastly, I decided to name my typeface “Hoskins Playful” to describe it as creative and fun while showcasing the personality of Professor Jamie Hoskins.
